Mason City- Robert Barrow Hart passed away on March 2, 2025 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Ia.
Per Robert’s wishes, his body will be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
Robert Hart was born in Sioux City, Iowa, the eldest son of Verle and Hazel (Barrow) Hart. He graduated from St. Louis High School before answering the call to serve his country in World War II. After his time in the military, Robert pursued a career as an engineer in Santa Barbara, California.
Robert met Alice McCandless, they dated for several years and later the two later married in Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning their journey together.
From an early age, Robert shared a love of horse racing with his father. This passion followed him throughout his life, leading him to racetracks across the country. Whether it was the familiar tracks of Sioux City, the storied Santa Anita in California, Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota, or the excitement of Des Moines, Iowa, he found joy in placing a bet and watching the horses run.
Splitting his time between California and his beloved home state of Iowa, Robert embraced the best of both worlds. His love of racing, travel, and the simple joys of life left an imprint on those who knew him.
Robert is survived by his sister, Joan Braucht; nephews, David and Robert Hart; and nieces Karen Braucht (Bill Fast) and Sherri Faulk.
Preceding him in death is his wife of 30 years, Alice Hart; his parents, Verle Hart and Hazel (Barrow) Hart and his brother Alan Hart.
