OBIT: Elaine Wilcox

Elaine Wilcox, 77, of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton.

Elaine Wilcox, 77, of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton with visitation one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center at a later date. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Elaine and her family.

Elaine Faye Wilcox was born on September 23, 1947, to Marvin and Margaret (Van Hoorn) Hassebroek in Buffalo Center, Iowa. She was the youngest of six children. Elaine was raised on the home farm about 5 1/2 miles east of Buffalo Center. She enjoyed farm life.

Elaine was active in 4-H programs, singing in the church choir, playing in the school band and riding her horse, Lightning, and caring for her favorite horse, Dixie. She enjoyed being with her siblings, going with her parents to family reunions and visiting her grandparents in South Dakota.

Her father passed away in 1963 and she continued living at home with her mother. In 1964, she and her mother moved into town. Elaine continued at Buffalo Center High, graduating in 1965. She then went to Mankato Commercial College and moved to Minneapolis where she was employed. She later moved back home and worked at Winnebago Industries.

In 1968, Roger and Elaine were married in the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. They were blessed with three children: Christine, Brian and Duane. Roger was a hired helper for a farmer close to Buffalo Center and they lived on the acreage where he worked. Elaine became the postmaster at the Buffalo Center Post Office.

Roger took various hired helper employment which he enjoyed and they moved to various locations, finally ending up in Hampton, Iowa, where Roger worked for Iowa Select Farms. Elaine became a home health aide, received her business degree from NIACC, then took employment with the Hampton State Bank where she was employed for 21 years.

Elaine was secretary of the Lions Club, American Legion and Windsor Theatre. Elaine and Roger enjoyed many trips to Branson, Missouri. She enjoyed country music and loved singing along with the recordings.

Elaine will be missed by her children: Christine (Dave) Hallmann, Brian (Tanya) Wilcox and Duane (Brandy) Wilcox; grandchildren: LaKeisha Hoyle, Jaina Olson, Ronald Wilcox, Treasa Wilcox, Hannah Wilcox and Brooke Rohwedder; great-grandchildren: Carter Duhn, Oliver Hoyle, Easton Messman, Madelyn Messman, Emberlyn Olson and Maisyn Olson; siblings Marlyn (Ruth) Hassebroek and Shirley (Mark) Eisenbarth; sisters-in-law Nola Hassebroek and Nancy Hassebroek; along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger in 2014 and brothers Robert (DeeAnn) Hassebroek, Wilbert Hassebroek and Dennis Hassebroek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hampton Senior Center.
