Victor was born June 23, 1945 in Chickasaw County, Iowa; the son of Wilbert and Darline (Tibbals) Boehmer. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served with them for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Personnelman Chief Petty Officer. Victor was united in marriage to Mary Jo Walker March 7, 1969. After his return stateside, he took up a number of different jobs over the years; most recently he was working with Mason City Transit.
Victor dedicated many years as a volunteer with the local fire department. He relished the times spent deer hunting and cherished the memories created while fishing, especially those trips to Kentucky with his brother. Victor always had to have his morning cup of coffee at R-80. This little ritual of his gave him the chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones. His presence at the table will be deeply missed by his coffee companions. Victor was a loving and compassionate man; he spent much of his time taking care of Mary; but would just about take the shirt off his back for anyone that needed the help. He was stern when needed; the best dad you could ever ask for. Above all, family was the cornerstone of Victor’s life. His unwavering support, endless patience, and profound love for his family were his greatest gifts.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Mary; siblings, Ruth (James “Buck”) Westcott of Waterloo, Iowa, and Rod Boehmer of Waterloo; children, Kathy (Bryan) Thenhaus of Mason City, and Kris (Brian) Nevenhoven; grandchildren, Bryce Kinkade, Corey Nevenhoven, and Amber Gregory; as well as many friends and extended family.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Wilbert and Darline; grandson, Justin Kinkade; and brother, Craig Boehmer.
