Cresco, Iowa – Warren Plantin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and proud Marine, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 78. He was a man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and a deep love for family, hard work, and the things that brought him joy.
Warren is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Plantin; his children, Thomas Plantin, Lori Carlson (Scott Carlson), and Steve Oland (Agnes Mocek); his grandchildren, Melissa Carlson (Darrell Sledge), Michelle Neubauer (Mitch Neubauer) and Meghan Maze; and his great-grandchildren, Amanii Sledge and Kenyon Sledge. He is also survived by his brothers, Bruce Plantin, Kevin Plantin, and his twin brother, Wallace Plantin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Oland, and his siblings, Mary Ann and Allen Lawrence and parents Norman and Geraldine. Warren’s legacy will live on through the lives of those who loved him, the lessons he imparted, and the memories shared.
A man of many passions, Warren found joy in NASCAR, baseball, and working on cars. He had an inquisitive mind and a knack for technology and computers, always eager to learn and tinker. His time in the Marine Corps instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, pride, and resilience—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
Beyond his many interests, Warren was known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. He had a way of bringing laughter into any room, lightening even the toughest moments with his quick jokes and playful spirit. His ability to find joy in everyday life and share it with those around him was one of his greatest gifts.
Warren’s kindness, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his son, Joey, his late siblings, and parents, that his spirit will forever be a part of their lives.
Military Honors will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, in Preston, MN, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, April 24, 2025. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1-5 p.m., at the Cresco VFW.
