Byron Stromer, 89, of Garner, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at Concord Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Byron Stromer, the son of Verner and Verna (Alford) Stromer, was born April 20, 1935, on a farm south of Garner. He attended country school until the eighth grade and graduated from Garner High School in 1953. On November 3, 1957, he married Mildred Murra. They made their home on a farm south of Garner where they raised their two sons, Douglas and Kevin. In 1961 Byron graduated from Reisch Auction School in Mason City and was an auctioneer in the family business, Stromer Auction Service for 32 years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, camping, and especially fishing.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church where he served as an usher.
Byron is survived by his wife, Mildred of Garner; son, Kevin (Bonnie) Stromer of Garner; grandchildren, Brandon (Libby) Stromer, Nick (Victoria) Stromer, Kristin Stromer and Alex Stromer; great grandchildren, Parker and Ava Stromer and Maddie Stromer; brother, Val (Mildred) Stromer of Slater; sisters-in-law, Juanita Stromer of Garner and Jeanne Stromer of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas; parents; parents-in-law; and two brothers, Velere and Lyndon Stromer.
