Richard Riley, 77, of Eldora and formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Richard Raymond Riley of Eldora, passed away January 7, 2025, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA. He was born May 3, 1947, to Raymond Carson Riley and Geraldine Viola (Nielson) Riley. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Funeral services are under the guidance of Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Dick graduated from Iowa Falls, class of 1965. He joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1966 to 1969 (just shy of four years). He did ground to air communications maintenance. He enjoyed a 30-year career with AT&T (Northwestern Bell) from 1971 to 2001. He held many positions over the years from lineman to network engineer.
He moved to Longwood, FL in 1985 and after retirement bought a house in Eldora to be close to family, but still spent the winters in FL. In May 2023, he sold his house in FL and moved back to Iowa to enjoy the Iowa winters as he did when he was a boy.
Dick enjoyed his woodworking projects, seems like he always had a car to tinker around on, he loved to fix anything that needed it (and if he didn’t know how he would research it and figure it out) and absolutely loved to share his knowledge with his children and family members and give advice when they needed it. In recent years he enjoyed his monthly get together with classmates in the area, he also enjoyed some time on the golf course with a few.
Dick is survived by one brother Gary (Lori) of Iowa Falls, brother-in-law Dean Walker of Forest City, three nephews, two nieces, five stepchildren, Dawn (Murray) Haacke, Donata (Murray) Williams, David Murray, Dean Murray, and Danette (Murray) Rogers, nine grandchildren; three daughters; Pam Riley, Patti Soliman, Paula Riley-Ring, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Riley and Kathy Walker.
