CEDAR FALLS- UNI junior guard Trey Campbell has been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s (MVC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The selection is the first weekly conference honor for Campbell, and marks the third time this season a Panther has won the award, joining both Leon Bond III and Tytan Anderson who both received the honor in consecutive weeks in late December.

A Cedar Falls, Iowa native, Campbell (pictured at top via UNI Athletics) put on a career performance last Saturday night with a 30-point game and eight three-point baskets made to help the Panthers rally from a 12-point deficit in an 85-84 road win at Illinois State. His 30-point outing was just the third time this year an MVC player has scored 30+ points in a game, joining his fellow teammate Bond, who scored a league-high 37 on Dec. 16 against Montana. Campbell also tied the conference’s high-water mark this year in made three pointers. He also scored 17 points on seven-of-13 shooting in Northern Iowa’s 71-68 home loss to Murray State last Wednesday.

Campbell, a Preseason Second Team All-MVC selection, is currently averaging a career-best 11.5 points per game through 17 games this season, along with a team-high three assists per game on 45.4% shooting. He is also shooting 46.3% from three-point range on the year.

Campbell and the Panthers return to action on Tuesday night when they host the Evansville Purple Aces. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at the McLeod Center, with live coverage available on the Panther Sports Network and the Panther Sports Radio Network.
