Mildred Konicek, 100, of Garner, formerly of Belle Plaine, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services are pending.

Mildred Konicek was born November 10, 1924, on a farm near Elberon, Iowa the daughter of Anton and Bessie Strachota. She graduated from Elberon High School and married Harold Konicek in 1947. The couple farmed near Elberon until moving to Belle Plaine in 1977. Mildred worked at Beno Manufacturing in Belle Plaine until her retirement. In 2014, she moved to Garner to be near her family and resided at Cardinal Grove Assisted Living until her death.
Mildred loved living on the farm. Those were the happiest days of her life. Typical of a farmer’s wife, she raised chickens and had a large vegetable garden. Mildred was a very good cook and was known for her kolaches and other baked goods. Mildred’s hobbies included sewing and crocheting and she made afghans for each of her grandchildren upon their graduation. She and her husband enjoyed going to dances and playing cards with friends. In later years she enjoyed playing Bingo and card games.
Mildred is survived by her children, Diane (Bob) Deibler of Garner, Allen (Sylvia) Konicek of Alpena, MI, and Cindy (Dave) Broadie of Davenport. Also surviving is a sister, Bessie Hrstka of Traer; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2008; grandsons, Jason Konicek in 1975 and Collin Broadie in 2022. Many of her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law have passed and several nieces and nephews.
