Mary Severson, age 84, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Bethany Life Communities in Story City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. A lunch will be served and the burial will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Slater. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is caring for Mary and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Falls Fire Department or the Robert W. Barlow Memorial Library of Iowa Falls.
Mary was born on November 17, 1940 in Rodman, IA, to Timothy Frank and Esther Marie (Berninghaus) Klein, the youngest of three children.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, IA, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was united in marriage to George J. Severson, her husband of over 55 years. The couple moved to Iowa Falls in 1977.
Mary was an active member of the Iowa Falls Business Community and a member of the Immanual Lutheran Church. After retirement, she volunteered at Scenic Living Community and her church.
Mary loved music and played both the piano and organ. She was an avid reader, longtime member of Highland Golf Course and spent many hours in her yard tending her flowers.
She is survived by her daughter Mary C. Severson of West Des Moines, IA, her sister-in-law Sue Klein of Fulda, MN, older brother Edgar Klein of Tucson, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George J. Severson, her parents Tim and Esther Klein, older brother Robert Klein and several aunts and uncles.
