Following the service, Velda will be laid to rest next to her husband Dewey, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Velda was born on November 27, 1952, in Mason City to Clayton and Gladys (Biggs) Waters. She grew up on a farm in Rockford, IA with her 4 sisters. Velda graduated Mason City High School in 1972. Velda worked as a janitor for Sears and cleaned for Country Kitchen and Keller Cleaning Service.

In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards with Dewey and their friends; especially Rook. Velda was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. She loved her cats and had many pets over the years. Velda liked cooking and baking pies and cookies; she also loved going out to eat. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She really enjoyed the annual sister’s visit. Velda took several trips to Colorado with her sister Wanda and brother-in-law, Greg. She enjoyed traveling to Minnesota/Colorado and spending Christmas at Wanda and Greg’s home.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters: Sandra (Bill) Horning of Altoona, IA, Donna (Jim) Lind of Albia, IA, Judy Kerchner of Shelby, MT, and Wanda (Greg) Bill of Windsor Heights, IA.
