One person dead, another seriously hurt in Iowa shooting

BURLINGTON - Police were called to the scene of a shooting in this Iowa town and discovered one person already dead and another in dire need of medical attention.

BURLINGTON – Police were called to the scene of a shooting in this Iowa town and discovered one person already dead and another in dire need of medical attention.

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 10:19 PM, Burlington Police Department patrol officers responded to the 500 block of S 7 street for reports of a shooting, Chief of Police Adam Schaefer said. Responding officers arrived on scene and located two victims with gunshot wounds. Officers provided emergency medical aid to the victims. One victim was transported to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center where he was later transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to be treated for his injuries. The second victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Due to the circumstances, Criminal Investigation Detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The incident remains under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
The Burlington Police Department is being assisted by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa DCI.

No additional information was released at this time.

UPDATE: Police say 28-year-old Alondro Lee Pratt of Racine, Wisconsin, died at the scene of this incident.  50-year-old Richard Willie Jackson of Burlington was transported to a hospital.
