WEST DES MOINES – A couple from Georgia decided to rob an Iowa bank in a busy Des Moines suburb Wednesday afternoon and quickly found themselves in handcuffs.
Just before 4:00 PM on November 20, 2024, West Des Moines police responded to a robbery call at Freedom Financial Bank 1255 Jordan Creek Parkway. Officers responded to secure the scene and quickly determined no one was injured. Officers and detectives gathered information which led them to a vehicle and suspect believed to be involved. That information was shared with law enforcement partners.
A short while later, troopers with the Iowa State Patrol found the vehicle and stopped it on I-80 just west of Anita, Iowa. The traffic stop was made without incident. West Des Moines detectives went to the stop location and investigated further.
Their work included the arrest of two people:
Daniel Mathes, age 53 from Georgia, was charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, and Theft 1st Degree.

Lisa Haire, age 41 also from Georgia, was charged with Aiding and Abetting Robbery 2nd Degree, and Aiding and Abetting Theft 1st Degree.

Both were taken to the Dallas County Jail.
