College Football: Iowa State drops second straight, throttled by Kansas 45-36

KANSAS CITY - Iowa State was unable to contain the pesky Kansas Jayhawks Saturday at storied at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, as the Cyclones lost a shootout 45-36.

KANSAS CITY – Iowa State was unable to contain the pesky Kansas Jayhawks Saturday at storied at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, as the Cyclones lost a shootout 45-36.

Kansas’ 532 yards are the most Iowa State has allowed since giving up 613 to West Virginia in 2016.  Iowa State’s 99-yard scoring drive in the first quarter was the third 99-yard drive since 2002.

Matt Campbell is now 60-50 at Iowa State and 95-65 overall as a head coach.  Campbell has coached Iowa State as a ranked team a school record 32 times with a 19-13 record.

The Cyclones are now 0-4 all-time in Arrowhead Stadium.

QB Rocco Becht

Rocco Becht
*His 383 yards passing were a season-high and the second most in his career. His 24 completions were also a season high.
*Threw a touchdown pass in his 13th-straight game, breaking Brock Purdy’s record of 12-straight in 2019.
*Now ranks seventh in program history for touchdowns responsible for with 46.
*Moved into fifth in school history with 5,606 career passing yards, passing Todd Bandhauer (5,234), Seneca Wallace (5,289) and Alex Espinoza (5,307). *Recorded his fourth career 300-yard passing game, tied for the third-most in school history.
*Moved into seventh in program history with 409 career completions.
*Is now tied for 10th on the single-season passing touchdowns list with 16 this year.

Jaylin Noel
*Tied a career-high in receptions with eight for the sixth time in his career.
*Finished with a career high 167 yards receiving.
*Caught a pass in his 41st straight game, the second-longest streak in school history and the fourth-longest active streak in the nation. *Recorded his seventh career 100-yard receiving game, the seventh most in program history.
*Caught two touchdown passes for the fourth time in his career and first time this season.

Dominic Overby
*Tallied his first career reception, going for nine yards on third-and-five in the second quarter.
Jaylon Jackson
*Caught his first touchdown pass at Iowa State and fourth of his career.

Carson Hansen
*Ran for his eighth touchdown of the season. He now has six touchdowns in his last four games.
J.R. Singleton
*Started his 25th game at Iowa State.

Darien Porter
*Appeared in his 60th game at Iowa State, tying former teammate Enyi Uwazurike for fourth in program history. *Finished with a career-high six tackles, doubling his previous career high.

Ta’Shawn James
*Finished with a career-high 10 tackles. He entered the game with just 12 tackles in two years.

Malik Verdon
*Started his 20th game at Iowa State.

Tyler Perkins
*Averaged 48.2 yards per punt, with three of his four punts going over 50 yards. Seven of his last 12 punts have been over 50 yards.

Kyle Konrardy
*Passed Cole Netten (2013) for third in school history on the field goals by a freshman list, knocking in both attempts today for 14 on the season.
