Memorial Services for Joyce Vogelman, 88, of Greene, who passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home, will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Rockford, Iowa. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Greene is caring for Joyce and her family. In lieu of flowers her family suggests memorials in her memory to the Rockford Fire Department or the Rockford Fossil Prairie Park.

Joyce Margarite Vogelman was born October 3, 1936, in Waterloo, a daughter of Joseph Maxwell and Eulla Belle (Summers) Branson. She was raised in First Methodist Church in Waterloo. Joyce graduated from Waterloo West High School and Iowa State University where she met Henry F. Vogelman. They were married April 1, 1961 at her church in Waterloo.

Joyce worked for Better Homes and Gardens Magazine while Henry finished college, then became a homemaker, raising their three children. During this time she also wrote articles for Iowa Farmer Today, and the Rockford Register, led the Age Wise Group organizing senior tours and gatherings. A published author, her book, “Getting It Right” was released in 1980.

Joyce was the High School Sunday School teacher at the Rockford First United Methodist Church for many years. She supported her husband and family by attending many ballgames, in all weather and situations. Always the journalist, she read the New Yorker Magazine on a regular basis, she loved politics and was a delegate at many conventions.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years: Henry; children: Linda (Mark) Vogelman-Cleveland, Minnetonka, MN, their son, Mark Henry Cleveland; Henry Joseph Vogelman, Troy, MO, and his children, Henry Donald Vogelman and Julianna Joyce Vogelman; June Belle Vogelman, Greene, and her son, David Crow; brother: Lindley (Connie) Branson, Minnetonka, MN; sister: Karen Branson, Berkeley, CA; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and sister Donna Guthrie.
