Linda Ellen (Sweet) Roney, 77, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
A funeral service for Linda Roney will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Chaplin Samuel Rambo of St. Croix Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Linda was born October 31, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to her parents Ben and Harriet (Vick) Sweet. Linda was the oldest sibling out of six. The family later moved to Decorah, Iowa where she grew up and graduated from Decorah High School in 1964. She met Duane Roney in 1968 through family and friends. After courting a few years, they united in marriage on May 2, 1970.
Linda’s love of helping and taking care of people was evident in her early career at Aase Haugen Nursing Home. In 1974 Linda and Duane moved to the Charles City area where her entrepreneur skills shined. She ran a daycare and later started L & D Cleaning which was successful for over forty years. During which time her love of baking turned into a side gig creating beautiful cakes, cookies, and other party goodies. Linda enjoyed needlework/embroidery, collecting Coca-Cola, clowns, and more. Although Linda was dedicated to her businesses, she was more devoted to her family and friends. Linda enjoyed camping with close friends, family gatherings, and all the activities that went with being an amazing daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Duane loved traveling to many places, shared wonderful memories, and stories that family love listening to.
Living family members included her husband, Duane; sons: Rob Sweet of Decorah, Thomas Roney of Iowa City, and John (Jamie) Roney of Charles City. 12 Grandchildren: Hope, Paige, Dylan, Serena Sweet, Crystal, Jacob “JJ” Garza; Jonah, Caleb, Sofia Roney; Caroline Hedrick, Nicholas, Emma Roney. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Harrison, Hadley, Nova, Mathias. Siblings: Cliff (Paula) Sweet of Salt Lake City, UT; Wanda (Duane) Garden of Acme, PA; Elaine (Wayne) Dow of McKinney, TX; Sharon Groh of Charles City.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Ben Sweet, Harriet and Lester Leidahl, her parent in-law Ralph and Angie Roney, sister Diane (Kenny) Berry; in-laws, Elaine (Dick) Kessler, Jeanette Harms, Ruthie Farley, Dawn Roney, John Barrett, Robert (Joanne) Roney; nephews, Jared Sweet, Travis Berry, Jeff Roney, and niece, Donna Freed.
