Bernard Floyd Miller, the son of Earl and Jessie (Cox) Miller was born on June 10, 1934 on a farm southwest of Algona, Iowa. Bernie attended country school in Portland Township for eight years and then went to high school in Burt, graduating in 1952. Following school, Bernie joined the National Guard where he served for six years and stayed in the active reserves for five years. On June 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Miller in Burt, Iowa. Bernie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. While living in Spirit Lake, Bernie could often be seen riding his moped, whether it was quick trips to the store for Phyllis or evening rides around the lakes. After moving to Humboldt, Bernie continued riding his moped. Using it for his early morning breakfast trips to Hy-Vee with his friends and evening rides to Gotch Park. Eventually he made the decision to sell his moped. Bernie always liked to keep busy. Through the years he had many side businesses (hobbies). Woodworking and leather work were his most notable.

Left to cherish Bernie’s memory are his son, Greg (Danette) Miller of Humboldt; daughter-in-law, Chris Miller of Arizona; three grandchildren, Emily Russell of Humboldt, Jessie Miller of Colorado, and Ellie Miller of Arizona; three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Isabel, and Abram Russell; sisters-in-law, Margaret Miller and Sharon Fortney; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; son, Jeff; and grandson, Marshall.
