ROCKFORD – A North Iowa high school that had to drop varsity football in 2022 due to low enrollment is ready to take the field this fall.
Back in 2022, due to the low number of upperclassmen participating in football, Rockford Administration and football coaches announced they would play a JV only schedule for the fall 2022 season.
“This decision was made based on what is best for our current football athletes as well as the future of our football program at this time. It is the hope that by playing JV only, our athletes will make greater strides with the fundamentals of football and have a greater chance of success compared to playing varsity only. It is the goal of the coaches and administration to return to varsity play for the 2023 season.”
After an 0-8 season in 2023 – all blowout losses – the Warriors appear ready to give it another shot in 2024.
“We are thrilled to announce that we have enough enthusiastic and dedicated students to play a varsity football schedule this season!” the R-R-MR school district announced this week.
“With 15 committed players already on the team and an open invitation for more students to join, we’re gearing up for an exciting and successful season. Your unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in inspiring our students to participate in this incredible sport. Football offers so much more than just competition; it teaches perseverance, dedication, discipline, leadership, and teamwork. We are grateful for the role you play in fostering these values in our young athletes. We can’t wait to see you on Friday nights as we come together to celebrate our team and all the hard work they put in.
