Loren E. Nelson 86, died Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday August 24, 2024, at Conner Colonial Chapel 1008 1st Ave South, Northwood, IA, with Pastor Becky Sogge officiating. The burial will take place at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. A flag presentation will be held by Our Buddies VFW Post 6779, at the cemetery.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave South, Northwood, IA.
Loren Eugene was born on June 19, 1938, the son of Mervin and Berniece (Kramer) Nelson. Loren graduated in the class of 1956, from Kensett High School. After graduating Loren began working in the concrete construction business until entering the military. Loren served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge.
On April 23, 1960, Loren was united in marriage to Rosalie Gill; to this union three children were born.
Loren was one of the owners of River City Floor Covering retiring after 52 years in the flooring business. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and pheasant hunting. He loved traveling with his family, especially taking fishing trips to Canada. Loren became a snowbird to Florida; he relished the winters spent there with his children and grandchildren. Loren enjoyed watching old Western movies, college sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid Minnesota Viking football fan.
Loren is survived by his children, Scott (Daisy)Nelson, Elizabeth (Dennis) Kelly, Brian (Susan) Nelson; grandchildren, Brandon Kelly, Zachary (Christy) Kelly, Ashley (Richie) Murrel, Brock Nelson, Lance Nelson; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Alana, Eric and Everly; siblings, Judy Blanchette, Ila Owens, Kathy (Larry) Danner, Becky (Steve) Lane, Merlyn Nelson; along with several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara J. Nelson.
