OBIT: David M. DeBell

David Michael DeBell, 77, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

David Michael DeBell, 77, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, IA 50428, with Revered Randy DeBell officiating. Burial will take place at Clear Lake Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, IA 50428.

In loving memory of David Michael DeBell, born November 4, 1946 in Mason City, Iowa. David was born to Donald Wayne DeBell Sr. and Helen Ann Ebough and was preceded by two siblings; Donald (Butch) Wayne DeBell Jr. and Sharon Ann (DeBell) Myers. During his life David worked for The Mason City Foundry (Mason City, Iowa), Scherr-Tumico Ind. (St. James, Minnesota), and Winnebago Ind. for 37 years and 7 months (Forest City, Iowa). David liked to collect fossils, seashells, butterflies, daylilies, arrowheads, stamps and anything he could get more than two of. He didn’t like to shave his beard most of his life but enjoyed getting his hair done by children and grandchildren. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July when he was able to spend his time around a good campfire with family and friends.

David was married 3 times. His first marriage was in 1964 with Judith Ann (Doughtery) DeLaCruz; daughter of Harry and Aredia Doughtery (St. James, Minnesota). David and Judith have 3 children; Dennis (and Teri) DeBell of Truman, Minnesota, DeeAnn (and Darin) (DeBell) Martell of Bismarck, North Dakota and Denise (and Chris) (DeBell) Rients of Elgin, Minnesota.

His second marriage was in 1976 to Mary Ellen (Timm) Monson; daughter of Ralph and Ruth Timm (Thornton, Iowa). David and Mary Ellen had one child together, Derek (and Alex) DeBell of Whiting, Iowa.
David’s third marriage is to Carol Ann (Fritz) Habeger (October 10, 1999) daughter of Carl and Verna. David is blessed with 4 stepchildren; Toni (and Dan) Voss of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Robin (and Joe) Gruebel of Lucas, Iowa, Jill (and Dustin) Madeline of Hayfield, Minnesota and Alex (and Lariena) Habeger of Austin, Texas.

Together they share 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. David was also blessed to be very close with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Helen Ann (Ebough) DeBell and Donald Wayne DeBell Sr.; brother Donald (Butch) Wayne DeBell Jr.; brother-in-law Gordon Dean Myers; his first wife Judith Ann (Doughtery) DeLaCruz; granddaughters Christina Marie Ann Martell, Angel Rose Martell and Deneen Karen Ann Martell; grandson Dalton David Scott Martell and several aunts and uncles.
