On July 19, 2024, John Byrd, affectionately known as “Johnny Byrd” passed on from this life. Johnny was born in Michigan City, IN on September 26, 1949, to Booker and Gladys Byrd. Late in life Johnny moved to Minneapolis, MN then later moved to Mason City, IA with his loving sister, Dorthy Robinson, the two of them shared an inseparable bond.
John enjoyed watching Country Westerns and Christian movies, he was also known for his written and spoken poetry and dancing to music. John was known for making his famous chili and cornbread. His family will miss him dearly, as he was one of the most kind-hearted people to know.
Those left to cherish his life and memories are his four children, Monica Beaty (Kingsford Heights, IN), Natasha(Darrel) Foster (South Bend, IN), Javadis Beaty (Kingsford Heights, IN), and Dominque Shannon of Michigan City, IN. Three grandchildren, Amiah Thornton-Beaty, Gabriella and Joshua Foster; one, sister Dorthy Robinson of Mason City, IA and one brother Timmy Dukes of Michigan City, IN; nieces and nephews, Jackie Byrd, Ebony Robinson and Immara Robinson of Minneapolis, MN and Taylor Robinson of Mason City, IA; a very best friend, Chris Anderson of Michigan City, IN., and a host of great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his, Father Booker Byrd and his Mother Gladys Byrd, brothers, Michael Dukes and Connie Adams, a great niece, Derriona Green and a great nephew Andre Riley.
A memorial service for John Byrd will be held on August 10, 2024, in Minneapolis, MN.
