Gene Clair Tannahill, of Fertile, Iowa. passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa.

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life will be set for a later date. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery.

Gene was born on September 23, 1927 to Estell and Alma (Wilson) Tannahill. He attended Madison Country School and Forest City Schools. Gene farmed with his dad south of Forest City. On October 9, 1949, he married Rosemary Jorgensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gene worked for Moorman Manufacturing Company for 32 years in Garner, Ortonville and Jackson, Minnesota as well as in Fertile, Iowa as the District Manager and salesman of livestock feeds. He was a long time member of the Fertile Lutheran Church.

In his free time he enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and sharing his gardening produce with loved ones and friends. Gene and Rosemary in their younger years were amazing to watch dancing with each other.

Tom the cat continues to live with Rosemary. He was Gene’s lap companion and followed him everywhere he went. Gene had a special bond with Tom.

Those left to cherish memories of Gene are his wife of nearly 75 years, Rosemary; daughters, Kathie (Marv) Brierly of Mason City, IA, Janine Ward of Nora Springs, IA; and Faye Hoeft of Fertile, IA; grandchildren, Justin (Hailey) Hoeft, Josh (Renee) Ward, Jesse Ward, Brandy (Joey) Harmon, Wendy “Sis” (Travis) Simpson, Nathan Brierly, Angie (Bob) Murley. 19 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; brother, Denny Tannahill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Gene is preceded in death by grandsons, Jason Brierly and Jeremey Hoeft; his parents, sisters, Jeanette, and Wilma, brother, Clyde; and Janine’s significant other, Randy “Buck” Janssen.
