Darwin Tielbur, son of Heiko and Mildred (Dye) Tielbur, was born on February 14, 1928, in Buena Vista County, Iowa. He passed away at Good Samaritan Home in Estherville on July 22, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
Dar graduated from Gillet Grove High School. Upon graduation he entered the United States Army on September 11, 1950. After serving in Germany, he returned stateside and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1952. Dar then moved to Lockport, Illinois, where he met fellow northwest Iowan, Darlene Sloniker. The couple was united in marriage on June 6, 1954, at First United Methodist Church in Lockport, Illinois. He worked at Fisher Body (GM) in Illinois for many years, before returning to Iowa in 1982. Dar then began working at EPS, where he continued to work until retiring at the age of 85.
Dar was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. He enjoyed attending car shows. Dar was very proud of his yard, especially the roses he grew, and his collection of yard spinners. He enjoyed collecting clocks and listening to polka music. Dar’s favorite treat was Delores’ chocolate cake.
Dar will be remembered as being a kindhearted man, who was always willing to help, had a smile on his face, and had a glorious head of hair!
Dar is survived by his grandchildren Darrell R. (Brittany) Tielbur Jr., Diannaha Thompson (Jason Dusek), Danielle Tielbur, and Melissa (Shane) Blackwell; 6 great grandchildren. Dar is also survived by his sister Doris (Gene) Friedland, sisters-in-law Roberta Kulow, Dolores Murray, and Marilyn Sloniker, brother-in-law Jerry Sloniker, close nieces Marla Kulow and Kathy Smith, and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
Dar is preceded in death by his father Heiko Tielbur, his mother Mildred Drew, his wife Darlene in 2002, his sons Dwain Tielbur and Darrell Tielbur, Sr, one brother and three sisters.
