A Celebration of Life will be held starting at 11:00 am Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Spikes, 18 7th ST. SE, Mason City. Luncheon will be served.

Larry Dean was born on September 20, 1953 in Mason City the son of Lloyd Richard and Margaret Anna “Opkis” VanHorn. He graduated from Mason City High School and then began work along side his dad and twin brother Terry at VanHorn Salvage Yard until his retirement. He lived in Swaledale for many years moving to Mason City in 2018. One of his passions was gardening, often giving away the fruits of his labor to family and friends. He enjoyed receiving goodies and canned goods made from his harvest. Growing the biggest onion, cabbage, and zucchini was his pride and truly made him feel like king of the garden. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada with his family and friends.

He only needed one lure no matter what he was fishing for, blue and silver rattle trap! When not gardening or fishing he loved tinkering and helping others. Larry was loved for his heart of gold and sense of humor. He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know him.

Larry is survived by his son Danny and wife Heidi of Mason City, Father Lloyd VanHorn of Mason City, twin brother Terry and wife Susan VanHorn of Mason City (which rumor has told Terry, kicked Larry out first) two sisters Connie and her husband Bob Zinnel of Mason City and Vicki Eckman of Otsego, MN, Granddaughter Kalei VanHorn, many nieces and nephews and more friends than we can probably count.

He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Cheers Popps! We love ya!
