Gene A. Milhan, 76, of Chapin, South Carolina, and Charles City, Iowa, died Friday, July 5, 2024, in Iowa.

A Celebration of Life for Gene will be held in September 2024 in Charles City.

Gene was born in Riceville, Iowa on January 19, 1948, to Harold and Berneta (Krumm) Milhan. He attended Charles City schools, graduating in 1966, and Wayne State University in Nebraska before joining the National Guard.

After college, Gene’s first career was with AT&T and the Bell System. He later worked in the telephone department at Boy’s Town, both of these were located in Omaha, Nebraska. When Gene moved to South Carolina in 1997, he began working alongside his wife, Judy, for Senior Catering, a non-profit corporation that provides 10,000 meals per day to the elderly and disadvantaged.

Gene was an enthusiastic baseball fan who also enjoyed golfing and fishing. His greatest joy in life was being able to spend time with family and friends.

Living family members include his wife of 27 years, Judy (Hicok) Milhan of Chapin, South Carolina; his sons: Dale (Lynn) Milhan and Ron (Sarah) Milhan all of Gretna, Nebraska, and Kent (Susana) Fifer of Lexington, South Carolina; his grandchildren: Abigail Milhan, Sydney Milhan, Nathan Milhan, Heidi Milhan, Caleb Nelson and Noah Nelson all of Gretna, Nebraska, and Katy (Joey) Elmusmari of Savannah, Georgia; great-grandchildren: Jade and Kole of Savannah, Georgia; brother, Allan (Colleen) Milhan of Norman, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Jane (Craig) Baldwin of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and first wife, JoAnn Milhan (Ron Owens).

Memorials may be made to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City where Gene was confirmed and married.
