Dorothy Lange Barhite, 93, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial in North Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iowa Falls or St Croix Hospice in Cedar Falls. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Dorothy Helen Hartwig (Lange) Barhite, 93, of Iowa Falls, passed away June 27, 2024 at Scenic Manor. She was born April 26, 1931 in Hardin County to Herbert Frederick Lewis Hartwig and Helen Edith West Hartwig. Dorothy was raised and educated in and around central Iowa, graduated in 1948 from Ackley High School, and worked at the PMA office (Production and Marketing Administration which later was part of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service) before marriage. Dorothy and Richard Alfred Lange were united in marriage on June 14, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and lived on a farm south of Iowa Falls. To Richard and Dorothy were born a son, Russell William and a daughter, Diane Kay.
After Richard’s death in 1974, Dorothy moved into Iowa Falls where she attended Ellsworth Community College and served as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the Hospital Auxiliary Board. On October 3, 1993 she married Lloyd Hilmer Barhite. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was an active member serving the Lord in teaching Sunday school and confirmation, singing in the choir, and studying the Bible with the Rebecca Circle.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Richard Lange and Lloyd Barhite, and three brothers; Leland, Gary, and Bud Hartwig. Survivors include her son, Russell (Gloria) Lange of El Paso, Texas; daughter Diane (Scott) Hamilton of Ankeny, Iowa.
She will also be remembered by Lloyd’s children Linda (Paul) Bartlett and Steven (JoAnn) Barhite, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
