Phyllis Vik, of Humboldt, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Long Term care at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, April 29 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Services will be livestreamed via: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/phyllis-vik. Burial will take place at Indian Mound Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Humboldt.

Phyllis Florence Nelson the daughter of Phillip and Florence (Swanson) Nelson, was born in Fort Dodge. She started school in Ft Dodge and then moved to Callender, Iowa where she continued her education until she graduated in 1951. During high school she was a member of the Glee Club and the basketball team. Following high school, she attended the Tobin School of Business in Ft. Dodge. Phyllis was united in marriage to William Robert Smith. Bob passed away in 1959 due to a traffic accident. She then went to work at the Humboldt City Clerk’s office as a bookkeeper and retired as Deputy Clerk in 1994 after 30years. Phyllis met Carroll Vik in 1966 and the couple was soon married on May 5, 1967.

Phyllis enjoyed sewing, oil painting, quilting (she was a member of the Honeybee’s Quilting Club), gardening, baking, and singing. She was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Phyllis is survived by her husband: Carroll Vik of Humboldt; children: David (Glenda) Smith of Custer, South Dakota, Gary Smith of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Kristen Smith Peltz of Barnard, Missouri and Greg (Cindy) Vik of Humboldt, Iowa; brother: Erland (Phyllis) Nelson of Humboldt; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Barbara Nelson of Dakota City and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Phillip and Florence (Swanson) Nelson; husband: William Robert Smith (d. 1959); sisters: Dorothy Nelson and Selma (Nelson) Ehrhardt and brothers: Clifford Nelson, Frank Nelson, and Virgil Nelson.
