Violet J. (Ward) Huerta, 77, of Mason City, IA, passed away April 4, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday April 9, 2024 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Violet will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Violet was born September 4, 1946 in Britt, IA; daughter of Donald Ward and Hazel Burgart. She attended Garner High School. Violet was united in marriage to Billy on September 3, 1977 in Garland, Texas. She was a dedicated homemaker and ensured the household ran smoothly for many years.

Violet was known to be a stubborn woman. There’s something undeniably admirable about a woman who knows her mind and sticks to her principles, even when faced with challenges or opposing viewpoints. If she had thoughts and opinions on something; she never shied from saying exactly what she thought. Violet loved animals, especially her dogs. Some might argue she loved them more than her grandchildren; but her capacity for love was abundant. Any particular day you could find Violet enjoying a nice cup of coffee or talking on the phone with her beloved friend Louis. Their conversations and friendship brought so much joy to her so; so we thank you.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sherry Harper, Scott Huerta, Peggy Smith, Debbie (Juan) Flores, Steven Huerta, April (Joe) Jones, and Rudy (DeeDee) Huerta; 30 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Carbajal, Kathy Smith, and Barb (Scott) Witt; brothers, Dave (Sue) Ward, and Jim (Marge) Ward; beloved dogs Michael and Oscar; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Billy Huerta; mother Hazel Burgart; daughters, Connie and Jeanette Huerta; brother-in-law, Jack Miller; son-in-law, Timothy Smith Sr.; and grandchildren, Steven and Lourina Huerta.
