A funeral service for John Berninghaus, 82, of Algona, will be held 11 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. The service will be live streamed on Trinity Algona YouTube page. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The committal service will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona following the funeral service. Family and friends are welcome to gather for lunch and fellowship at St. Cecelia Presentation Center after the burial.
John William Berningaus, son of Louie and Hilda (Ostrum) Berninghaus, was born August 13, 1941, in Whittemore, Iowa. He graduated from Sentral High School with the Class of 1959. John was employed at Pioneer from 1959 until his retirement. On August 21, 1960, he was united in marriage with Patricia Hedlund at the United Methodist Church in Algona. Four children were born to this union. John’s favorite pastimes included woodworking, pheasant hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.
John passed away April 1, 2024, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.
Survivors include his children: Michael Berninghaus of Fort Dodge, IA, Mark Berninghaus of Estherville, IA, Pamela (Christopher) Radig of Pocahontas, IA, and Judy (Tom) Harris of Polk City, IA; grandchildren: Ryan (Brooke) Nichols, Alyssa Nichols, Alex (Hollie) Radig, Ashley Radig, Jordyn (Scott) Brau, Autumn Radig; great grandchildren Liam, Theo, and Scarlett; and siblings: James (Jan) Berninghaus of Griffin, GA, and Karen (Ed) Fuoss of Mason City, IA.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pat (2011), grandson Tyler Harris, and sister Viola (Donald) Hansen.
