OBIT: Margaret Ann Chishom

Margaret Ann Chisholm, 91, died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Manly Specialty Care Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, April 8, 2024 at Bride Colonial Chapel.

Margaret Ann Chisholm, 91, died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Manly Specialty Care Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, April 8, 2024 at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring St, Manly, IA, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be in the Plymouth Cemetery at a later date.

Margaret was born on January 2, 1933, the daughter of Ed and Ruby (Vikturek) Wasicek. She graduated from Plymouth High School. On January 6, 1951, Margaret married Howard Hansen at Grafton Emanuel Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Minnesota doing the usual farming activities, milking cows, raising hogs and chickens, as well as custom corn picking and combining.

The couple was blessed with a son Lyle, in 1954 and a daughter, Jean, in 1957. In 1959 the family moved to Plymouth and continued farming until 1972. While farming Margaret drove a school bus for North Central School of Manly from 1963 to 1982. In the summer months she drove a rock truck for Lee Prentice and then for Hallett Construction. Other jobs included working at Buehlers Cafe in Mason City for 10 years on Sundays. Howard died in 1981 while working for Hallett Construction in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.

In 1983 Margaret married Robert Chisholm eventually they moved to southern Iowa for three years and then moved back to Mason City in 1987. After returning she worked at Cooks Auctions at Wide World of Auctions, and Valentinos a couple of years; and then as a security guard for Lewis Systems of Iowa from 1987 to 1994. Margaret also served lunch sales at auctions and in the fall helped Cole Brothers with corn hauling and plowing stalks as well as doing different chores for LaVonne Gregory.

Margaret was a member of the Church of Christ, VFW and Women of the Moose. She loved working in the field, gardening, fishing, drawing and helping others.

Those left to cherish memories of Margaret are her children, Lyle (Lonna) Hansen, and Jean (Ric) Vermedal; grandchildren, Tonya Hansen, Jessica (Ace) Rice and Casey (Ben) Beville great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rice, Tanner Rice, Hunter Beville and Aspen Beville.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Hansen and Robert Chisholm; and both of her parents.
