Gladys Lanore Pfertzel, 100, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Nora Springs Care Center. A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday April 5, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Gladys Lanore Pfertzel, 100, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday April 5, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 1st Ave NW, Rockford, IA 50468 with Reverend Frantz Augustin as Celebrant. Visitation will begin from 9:30 AM to the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, IA.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Name Catholic Church.

Gladys was born on November 23, 1923 in Dougherty, IA to James and Mary (Conners) Hogan. Gladys graduated in 1941 from St. Patrick’s High School in Dougherty. She went on to work as a housekeeper for the Mercy Medical Center in Rockford as well as driving the school buses for RRMR School District for 22 years.

Gladys would meet the love of her life Eugene Pfertzel at a dance before he went into the Marines overseas, upon his return they were united in marriage on November 12, 1946 in Dougherty, IA. From this union two children were born Bonnie Scurry and Richard Pfertzel. She would often been seen tending to her flowers, baking treats, painting and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish Gladys’ memory are her children Bonnie Scurry and Richard (Diane) Pfertzel; grandchildren Jena Scurry, Logan Pfertzel, Ellie Carlson, Alona Pfertzel; great-grandchildren Emilie Carlson, Skylar Pfertzel, and Remington Pfertzel.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Pfertzel; parents James and Mary Hogan; sisters Lillian Anderegg, Dorothy Foley and Doris Ewen; brother Donald Hogan; and son-in-law Henry Scurry.
