Sheridan A. Cook, 92 of Algona, passed away on March 19, 2024, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Sheridan A. Cook, 92 of Algona, passed away on March 19, 2024, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Algona with Pastor Russ Jacobsen officiating. Services will be livestreamed on Lentz Funeral Home’s website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/sheridan-cook. Burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Algona. Services are entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Sheridan A. Cook, son of Arthur and Gladys Cook was born April 4, 1931, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He graduated from Montezuma, Iowa high school in 1948. Sheridan worked as a carpenters apprentice for several years until he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seabee. He was stationed in the Philippines and worked in a construction battalion. After his honorable discharge Sheridan attended Drake University, earning a business degree.

In 1956 Sheridan was united in marriage to Janice McMullin. The couple was blessed with three children, Sheryl, Lynn and Scott. Later, in 1986, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Fleming in Pella, Iowa.

Sheridan had a long and successful career as a general contractor. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona. He was a former Algona city council member, volunteer for local 4-H, and a past coach for Algona Girls softball when his children were young. Sheridan also served as a president and treasurer of the Iowa Quarter horse Association. He enjoyed fishing, his pets, raising and showing quarter horses and spending time with his family.

Sheridan is survived by his daughters Sheryl (Steve) Mertz of Robbinsdale, MN and Lynn (Ernie) Wolter of Emmetsburg, Iowa, grandchildren Amanda, Mindy, E.J., Nicole, Jessica, Sarah, Amber, Adam and Jill and 17, soon to be 18 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by Marilyn’s children, David, Ruth, Lorraine, Steven, and their families.

Sheridan was preceded in death by his parents Art and Gladys Cook, wife Marilyn Cook, son Scott Cook, step-daughter Jennifer Fleming and his yellow lab and faithful companion, Jessie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kossuth Regional Health Center Foundation or Algona Community School District in Sheridan’s honor.
