Ruth Anderson, 96, long-time Iowa Falls resident, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Scenic Manor.

Ruth Anderson, 96, long-time Iowa Falls resident, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Scenic Manor. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Woodley Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ernie, at the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Thursday, March 28 at the funeral home. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Ruth and her family.

Ruth Tempel Anderson was born on July 16, 1927. She was the tenth child of twelve children born to Joe and Hilka Tempel at home on the farm in Kamrar, Iowa. She participated in girls’ basketball while in high school, but only the home games. Her father would not allow her to play at the out-of-town games. She graduated from Kamrar High School and moved to Iowa Falls with her best friend Bessie Brinkama. They both were employed by Farmer’s Exchange. She met her future husband, Archie Earnest “Ernie” Anderson at the roller-skating rink. They united in marriage on August 4, 1947 in Berryville, Arkansas.

To this union four children were born: Archie, Danny Pete, Jody and Julie. She was a stay-at-home mom so she could raise the children. Later, she worked at The Advertiser and Times Citizen in the mailroom. After retirement she and Ernie spent many winters in Brownsville, Texas. She also enjoyed entertaining friends and family and was known for her “grammy” eggs and cherry date nut bread.

Ruth Anderson survived by her sons, Archie (Raynette) Anderson of Cedar Falls, Danny Pete (Mary Janet) Anderson of Carrollton, Texas and Jody (Stacey) Anderson of Iowa Falls; her grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Counsell, Sarah Hayes, PJ Anderson, Alyssa Johnson, Jacob (CJ Schei) Anderson and Jared Anderson; great-grandchildren: Dillon (Jasmine) Counsell, Dana (Wyatt Ziesman) Counsell, Deenna Counsell, Coryn Anderson, Kynley Janet Hayes and Faith Anderson; great great-grandchildren, Easton and Evie Grace Ziesman and Bellamy Counsell; sisters-in-law, Maxine Anderson and Virginia Anderson along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Julie Anderson, a grandson, Mark Johnson; brothers and sisters: John Tempel, Katie Hassebrock, Dorothy Hoversten, Margaret Arends, Richard Tempel, Virgil Tempel, Harold Tempel, Donald Tempel, Joey Tempel, Elton Tempel and Naomi Park.
