MASON CITY - A camper was totally destroyed by fire in Mason City and authorities think a cigarette was to blame.

MASON CITY – A camper was totally destroyed by fire in Mason City and authorities think a cigarette was to blame.

On March 7, at approximately 6:26 AM, the Mason City Fire Department was dispatched for the report of a camper fire at 1211 S Georgia Ave. Fire crews arrived and found a motorized camper 75% involved with fire. The camper was in the backyard of the residence with no buildings or vehicles close by. The fire was extinguished by fire personnel. The camper is a total loss.

No injuries were reported.

Emergency crews cleared the scene at approximately 8:13 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to have started from cigarette smoking.

Fire crews were assisted by Mason City Police Department.
