Women’s College Basketball: UNI Panthers defeat Evansville in final regular-season matchup, 67-46

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - UNI wrapped up the regular season with a matchup at Evansville. The Purple Aces struck first before a dominant defensive performance from UNI who took a quick lead and never looked back. UNI finished the season with a 67-46 victory.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – UNI wrapped up the regular season with a matchup at Evansville. The Purple Aces struck first before a dominant defensive performance from UNI who took a quick lead and never looked back. UNI finished the season with a 67-46 victory.

Evansville scored the first points of the matchup on a layup before a 10-point Panther run. The run saw four points from Grace Boffeli. A pair of free throws from the Purple Aces ended the UNI run after the media timeout, but Maya McDermott and Grace Boffeli followed that up with a jump shot each to take a 14-4 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw more Panther dominance with another single-digit performance from Evansville. UNI scored the first two buckets with layups from Maya McDermott and Cailyn Morgan before an Evansville layup. McDermott notched a pair of free throws before three more Panther points. The Purple Aces finished the second quarter with a four-point run to cut into the UNI lead. The Panthers held a 13-point lead at 25-12 after the first half.

Kayba Laube opened the third quarter with a three-pointer before three points from Evansville. Boffeli knocked down a three before three more points from Evansville. Back-and-forth baskets from both teams into the media timeout saw the Panthers on top with a score of 38-22 at the third quarter media timeout. The Purple Aces finished the third quarter on a 9-4 run and UNI had a 42-31 lead with only the final frame remaining.

Laube opened another quarter with a three-pointer before an and-one layup from Evansville. Laube answered with another three before a layup from McDermott. Taryn Wharton hit back-to-back threes for the Panthers before an and-one layup from Maya McDermott to take a 59-40 lead into the last media timeout.

In the final stretch of the matchup, Bri Robinson recorded five points for the Panthers who took home a 67-46 victory in their final regular season matchup of the year.

Maya McDermott led the UNI offense with 17 points. Kayba Laube and Grace Boffeli were the other Panthers in double-figures with 11 points each. Boffeli finished with a double-double with 11 rebounds as well.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

UNI extended its win streak to 20 games against Evansville with a 67-46 victory. The Panthers are now 45-19 against the Purple Aces.
The Panthers held Evansville to four points in the first quarter. That was the lowest number of points the Panthers have allowed in a quarter this season. It was also the lowest first quarter allowed since a shutout of Evansville in 2021.
Grace Boffeli recorded her 11th double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She finished the regular season with double figures in every conference matchup this season.
