Dale Mains, age 96, of Algona passed away on February 14, 2024 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday February 20th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.

Dale Mains, age 96, of Algona passed away on February 14, 2024 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday February 20th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Burial will take place in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard, the Howard D. Omdahl VFW Post #2541 and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Monday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.

Dale Cummings Mains, the son of Johnathan Henry and Iva Fern (James) Mains, was born on March 22, 1927 on a farm near Guthrie Center, Iowa. He attended school thru the 9th grade and then went to work at Swift & Co. Dale worked various jobs until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. He was a forward observer and transported prisoners in Germany for 42 months. Dale met Lucille Lauck on a blind date. On August 2, 1953 they were married in Whittemore, Iowa and spent 65 years together until Lucille’s passing.

Dale worked many jobs including driving a gas truck for Conoco, working at the Algona Creamery, Jack’s OK Tire, Universal and Pioneer. He retired from Pioneer in 1986 after working there 19 ½ years. Dale then worked various part time jobs.
Dale was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as an usher and a Trustee, VFW Post #2541 and with the TLC Quilters. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, walking at the YMCA, stuffing bears and crosses for the TLC Quilters, puzzles, traveling, gardening, mowing, driving detasseling machines, camping and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish Dale’s memory are his children, Wanda (Steve) Schwier of Atlantic, Donna Mains and her special friend Dan Coleman of Hornersville, MO, Lynette (Kurt) Hankins of Algona, and Scott (Lou Ann) Mains of Lewiston, ID; grandchildren, Seth (Kassedi), Timothy (Cassie), Jeany, Tiffany (Ed), Zachary (Anna), Titus, Abe, Sam and Hannah; great grandchildren, Dakota, Avery, Rilie, Sarah, Ezekiel, Olivia, Katera, Kyra, Summer, Mason, Emily, Skylar, Zoey, Keegan, Luke, Kyran, Kenai and Isobel; great great grandchild, Kylie; a sister-in-law, Joann; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille in 2019; and brothers, Donald, Ellis, Ralph, Wesley and Edwin.
