OBIT: E. Joe Lagasse

E. Joe Lagasse, 85, of Garner, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Summit House Assisted Living in Britt. A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner.

E. Joe Lagasse, 85, of Garner, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Summit House Assisted Living in Britt.

A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Andrew Marr officiating. Inurnment will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Edward Joseph Lagasse, the 16th child of Dosithe and Josephine (Turcotte) Lagasse, was born November 10, 1938, in Rolla, North Dakota. He attended and graduated from Rolla High School in 1956. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army from May 1957 to May 1959. On April 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Linda Etzen in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in several states before making their home in Garner in 1976. Joe retired in 2004 from Iowa Mold Tooling after working there for 27+ years.

Joe enjoyed following girls’ high school basketball and watching the MN Vikings. Joe enjoyed reminiscing with his grandchildren about his life as a young boy on the farm in rural Rolla, ND and following his grandchildren’s activities. He was also a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Joe is survived by his three children, Robin Lagasse of Minneapolis, MN, Wendy (Paul) Juntunen of Rolla, ND and Dawn (Brian) Henley of Marshalltown, IA; five grandchildren, Jadyn, Haley and Kylie Juntunen of Rolla, ND, Creighton Henley of Phoenix, AZ and Matt (Joelle) Henley of Alburnette, IA; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delia Godfrey (Longview, WA), Alice Pidde (Bloomington, MN), Semon Jalbert (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and hundreds of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda, December 31, 2009; siblings, Henry (Elizabeth), Emil (Emma), Omer (Antoinette), Arthur (Irene), Marie (Antoine) Jalbert, Eva (Art) Winslow, Zenon (Anne), (Fern), Laura (Kermit) Hellem, Louis (Clarice), Albert, Stella (Everette) Dawson, Armand, Walter Godfrey, Robert Pidde and Etienne Jalbert.
