DES MOINES – Thursday, Iowa’s top labor union warned citizens that Republican lawmakers are advancing anti-worker legislation that would threaten public employees.

According to a bulletin NIT received from the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO:

In Iowa, right at midnight, ANTI-UNION legislation passed committee and will be eligible for floor debate in the Iowa Senate. Seven Republicans FOR and four Democrats/one Republican AGAINST.

Whether you are a union member or not, your voice is needed. We all know that unions raise the standard of living for all workers and an attack on one of us is an attack on the livelihoods and rights of all workers.

The bill requires a public employee union to go to court if the public employer fails to send in an employee list to the state labor board or the union will be decertified. The bill threatens to take away the union of our great public employees in the State of Iowa for something they can not control. The only option for the union is to take the public employer to court which costs money and resources.

We are calling on everyone to take action on the union busting bill SB3158 and contact Iowa Senators and most importantly YOUR Senator. → Find Your Legislator. Please keep your comments respectful and it’s ok to be brief but tell your story. It’s always a good idea to leave your name, address and contact information.

It is best to write your own email and use your own words and experiences.

You may email your Iowa Senator HERE : https://act.aflcio.org/letters/ssb-3158-anti-union-bill

Email, call, attend a forum, show up to rallies or press conferences. We need collective action. We can see what happens in pro-union states when we get active. Michigan just reversed Right-to-Work and expanded public worker collective bargaining. Start today!
