Lucille Werner, longtime resident of Meyer and Osage, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at Homestead Assisted Living in Mason City.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Lucille’s 95th birthday, 11:00 am, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1204 State Street, Osage, with Rev. Raymond Burkle as Celebrant. Lucille’s family will greet relatives and friends for a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church on Saturday. A private inurnment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage.
Memorials may be left in Lucille’s name in care of her family, to be given to the Foster Grandparent Program at Lincoln Elementary in Osage.
The daughter of Lawrence and Louise (Johanns) Milbrandt, Lucille was born February 17, 1929. She grew up alongside her four siblings on the family farm outside of Meyer where she attended country school before graduating from McIntire High School.
On August 12, 1947 Lucille was united in marriage to Leon Werner at St. Mel’s Catholic Church in McIntire; together they would be blessed with seven children and nearly 60 years of marriage before Leon’s death on August 19, 2006.
For many years she and Leon made their home on the family farm outside of Meyer, where they raised their kids and farmed the land. In 1984 they moved to Osage following their retirement.
Lucille was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was known as “Grandma Lucy” to many children throughout the years as a foster grandparent through the Osage Elementary School. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served on the Sacred Heart Guild and loved crocheting and tending to her flower gardens.
Those grateful in sharing in her life include her children, Jerry (Edna) Werner, Cantonment, FL, Diane Wilson, Rochester, MN, Debra (John) Lair, Miami Beach, FL, Nancy (Mike) Borchardt, Plymouth, and Kevin (Becky) Werner, Mason City; son in law, Roger Johnson, Austin, MN; grandchildren, Jill (Johnson) Jones and Jason Johnson, Eric, Jennifer, and Jeremy Werner, Melissa (Wilson) Rensch, and Alyssa Lucker; great grandchildren; special nephew, Dana Milbrandt and niece, Dawn Oberfoell; and many nieces and nephews as well as extended family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; daughters, Barbara Jean Werner and Judy Johnson; and siblings, Ralph Milbrandt, Bernice Runde, Kathleen “Kate” Hemann, and Robert Milbrandt.
