Carl Ross, 85, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 6:00p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.

Carl Ross, 85, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Erik Hoefer from Messiah Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. before the memorial service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Carl Frederick Ross, the son of Hans and Elsie (Griesert) Ross, was born on February 21, 1938, in Fredericksburg, Iowa. He attended schools in Fredericksburg and graduated high school in 1956. Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from 1961-1965 and then was in the reserves for two years. Carl was united in marriage to Avonell “Ann” Robinson on September 15, 1964, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Carl worked for Shawver Well and farmed in Fredericksburg until the family moved to Charles City in the early 70s. He then worked for Oliver/White Farm until their closing. He also worked in construction and roofing for many years. Carl was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served on the board for a few years.

Carl enjoyed playing baseball and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. He liked playing cards, especially 500 and euchre. He enjoyed being outdoors deer hunting and tending to his garden and koi pond. Carl also liked collecting guns and had a very impressive collection of vintage clocks and cuckoo clocks. Above everything, Carl loved spending time with his family and his great-grandchildren affectionately called him “Candy Carl” for always having candy to share with them.

Living family members include his three children: Marie (Bob) Kellogg , Matt (Wendy) Ross, and Mike (Joan) Ross all of Charles City; 13 grandchildren: Nickolas, Kasey, Erica, Danielle, Samantha, Sydney, Ashley, Anthony, Mariah, Jordon, Melissa, Derek, and Darlene; 17 great-grandchildren: Brendyn, Haylay, Evelyn, Kaitlyn, Kayden, Karsyn, Camden, Ambree, Rianen, Jesse, Alivia, Brady, Brior, Payton, Grace, Emrie, and Elsie; brother, Harold (Sheryl) Ross; sister, Margaret (Art) Roberts; sister-in-law, Pat Ross; special nephew, Leonard Hodges; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents; brothers, John and Bob Ross; sister-in-law, Leitha Ross; and 12 brothers and sisters-in-law.
