The daughter of Alton and Gladys (Intorf) Grap, Phyllis Jean was born on June 23, 1935 in Osage, IA. She attended Osage Community High School, graduating in 1954.
She was united in marriage to Robin N. “Rob” Rolland and they would be blessed with three children, Joni, James, and Jennifer. Rob would precede Phyllis in death in 1991 at the age of 59.
Phyl was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Always known as a fabulous cook, and in earlier years she hosted Sunday dinner for her family nearly every weekend following church services. Together she and Rob enjoyed summers spent at Little Ponderosa Resort on Lake Wabedo where they would fish for walleye, and golfing, a hobby she would continue with her friends and family following his death. She looked forward to reminiscing with family every year at their annual Grap Reunion held at Interstate Park in Mitchell and rarely missed a Monday shopping trip with her sister, Lola, and friend, Doke Kruse.
Following Rob’s death she worked various jobs in Osage to fill her time, including Nature’s Originals and the Cedar Valley Supper Club.
On September 23, 1995 she was united in marriage to John Moss after being introduced to one another through mutual friends. Phyllis joined John on the Moss Family Farm outside of Riceville for a number of years before they moved to Osage.
Those grateful in sharing in her life include her children, Joni Meek, Jim Rolland, and Jennifer (Keith) Winkels; John’s children, Sherrie (Howard) Baker, Lynette (Randy) Kephart, Alan Moss and their families; grandchildren, Shannon Henaman, Danny (Shannon) Henaman, Niki Henaman, Philip Henaman, Jamie (Jared) Locke, Casey Rolland, Nick Winkels, Ruth (Rd) Smith, Molly Winkels, and Benjamin Winkels; four great grandchildren, Dylan, Courtney, Nadia, and Ada; and her great great grandchildren; sisters, Lola (Ron) Low and Debbie Starkey; and many nieces and nephews.
