MASON CITY – North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) has officially launched a national search for a new President, following the announcement of Dr. Steve Schulz’s retirement at the end of June 2024. After a decade of transformative leadership, Schulz leaves a legacy of growth and academic distinction at NIACC.

Under Dr. Schulz’s tenure, the college’s achievements have been recognized nationally, with accolades including five recognitions by the Aspen Institute in the last ten years and a Forbes magazine nomination as one of the best small employers in 2023.

The search for a new President is aimed at finding a visionary leader who will continue this trajectory of success and innovation. The ideal candidate will build on NIACC’s strong foundation in academic excellence, student success, and community involvement. The role calls for comprehensive oversight of the college’s operations and collaborative engagement with faculty, staff, students, and the broader North Iowa community.

A Presidential Search Committee, comprising faculty, staff, and community members, has been established to ensure a transparent and equitable search process. This committee will conduct a thorough evaluation of candidates, focusing on their qualifications, leadership skills, and commitment to NIACC’s values and mission.

The search is expected to be rigorous, with the college aiming to announce its new President in April. Top candidates will have the opportunity to engage with various college and community stakeholders through campus visits, meetings, and interviews.

North Iowa Area Community College looks forward to this new chapter and the opportunity to welcome a leader who will continue to foster an environment of excellence and inclusivity, preparing students for success in a changing world.
