Neil was born on October 14, 1943 the son of Myron and Ilene (Lines) Ackley. He graduated from Rudd, Rockford, Marble Rock High School. At a young age he began his military career, first with the National Guard and then spent 23 years with the Navy as an Intelligence Photographer and also worked for President Regan. In his free time he enjoyed being a part of Tractor Rides throughout the state of Iowa. Neil liked buying and trading cars and trucks frequently. Often he would take walks with his dog, Buzz, around the Rudd pond and other local areas. He had a great sense of humor and showed it through gag gifts with his granddaughter, Krysta for numerous years. Neil and his wife Connie enjoyed camping in various parks around North Iowa. Above everything he loved being a father and grandfather, and was always there to show support at all their activities.

Those left to cherish memories of Neil are his wife, Connie; children, Mark (Nancy) Ackley, Kim (Tim) Hofler, Steve (Jennifer) Ackley, and Shelly Pell; grandchildren, Andrew Young, Savanna Young, Timothy (Caci) Hofler, Mark Jr. Ackley, Krysta (Tyler) Scheer, Jordan Ackley, Jacob Ackley, Darren Ackley, Tawanee Ackley and Phillip Ackley; several great grandchildren; sister, Jeanie Paulus; nieces and nephews.
