Michael “Mike” David Johnson, 85 of Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, with his family by his side. Services and arrangements are pending due to a family emergency. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for Michael and his family.

Mike was born on April 5, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, to Woodrow and Rowena (Michael) Johnson as the third of four children. Mike was united in marriage to Conchita McIntosh on June 7, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They had a beautiful marriage for 64 ½ years that included raising three children and enjoying seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mike graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, Missouri. He worked at General Motors in Kansas City, Missouri, right after high school, for a short time, before beginning his career with Hy-Vee, Inc. Mike started his Hy-Vee career with humble beginnings as a meat wrapper in the Oskaloosa, Iowa, store in 1957. Mike had an extremely strong work ethic and elevated himself throughout his career as he strived for perfection from a full-time meat wrapper to Vice President of Meat Operations for the Hy-Vee Corporation. He was a great mentor to so many people and friends over the years. Mike retired from Hy-Vee after 43 years of dedication and loyal service.

Mike loved fishing in northern Minnesota and he and his family spent many, many vacations there and made many memories enjoying the great up north. He loved duck hunting, golfing, and camping, too.

Mike is survived by his wife Conchita Johnson, of Hampton, Iowa, daughter Lori (Jeff) Carson of Loves Park, Illinois, son Kurt (Michelle) Johnson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and daughter Holly Narber of Hampton, Iowa. Mike is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Ashley (Eric) Scolaro of Ankeny, Iowa, and their sons, Silas and Seneca; Brittney (Ryan) Billing of Columbus, Ohio, and their daughter, Lazuli; Zachary (Erin) Carson of Loves Park, Illinois, and their sons, August and Calvin; Tristen (Nick) Torkelson of Thor, Iowa, and their son, Jacob; Tyrel Johnson (Emily Stark) of Tiffin, Iowa; Jordan (Crystal) Narber of Grand Island, Nebraska, and their daughter, Cadence; Chloee (Brett) Kramer of Norwalk, Iowa, and their daughter, Parker.

Mike was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Todd Narber, his parents, Woodrow and Rowena Johnson and his siblings, Anne Reno, Kenneth Johnson, and Woody Johnson.
