Matthew “Scotty” Watkins, age 50, of Greene, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Waverly Health Center. A public visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at Woodley Funeral Home in Greene. A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Greene is caring for Scotty and his family.

Matthew Robert Scott “Scotty” Watkins was born May 23, 1973, in Charles City, son of Robert and Betty (Nelson) Watkins. He graduated from Greene High School. Scotty worked in the warehouse at Trinity Rail in Shell Rock.

Scotty was a Mason and was affiliated with St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He served at the Greene Ambulance, was a member of the Fireman Association and the Greene Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years. He was also a former Greene City Council member.

Scotty enjoyed “Happy Hour” with his best buddy and “brother”, Kris Dralle. He was the best “uncle” to Kris and Erin Dralle’s three children. Scotty never missed an ambulance or fireman meeting. He was known for telling stories and jokes. The doctors said he had an enlarged heart; and that he did. Scotty had a BIG heart!

Scotty is survived by his sisters: Nancy (Tim) Doudell of San Jose, California; Deb (Jimmy) Bostock of Hephzibah, Georgia; Roberta (Patrick) Fitzgerald of East Hampton, Connecticut; and Julie Watkins of Greene, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Mary Jennifer, Christine, Kelly, Brittany, Jeff and Noah; great-nieces and great-nephews: James, Erin, Kate, Audrey, Dorothy, Ian and William; along with his dog: Hank.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cindy Ketchum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
