John Henry Alexander, 77, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away December 21, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Harbor of New Hope Church 804 N Tyler Ave, Mason City, IA 50401, with Pastor Ken Draper officiating.

John was born July 28, 1946, in Olney Springs, Colorado, son of Dewey and Myrtle (Bitner) Alexander. He attended East High in Pueblo, Colorado. His dedication to family led him to join the workforce at the age of 11. At age 17, he began learning his trade in construction. John met the love of his life Nancy Lamb in 1970. A few weeks later, absolutely smitten with one another; they were united in marriage February 13, 1970 at Country Mission Church in Swaledale, Iowa. Together they earned their associate’s degree in Bible Study at Kingsway College. They were associate pastors at Country Mission Church for 17 years and later pastored in Lake Mills for about another 14 years. John owned and operated his own construction company. Construction put food on the table, but the ministry was both his and Nancy’s passion.

John was a family man above all else. Family always came first for him; but that never stopped him from helping anyone else he saw in need. He was well known for bringing home kids that could use a few life lessons and a well cooked meal. John saw the good in everyone and if he had the means to help; he made it his life’s work to help anyone he could. Anyone down on their luck could find work with him and he was happy to teach anyone the trade if they wanted to learn. He would also fish on occasion, but only if he made it to a mountain stream.

Those left to cherish him are his wife, Nancy; children, Jodi (Ken) Draper, Matt (Angela) Alexander, and David (Julie) Alexander; grandchildren, Savanah (Matt) McClemons, Tiara (Gordon) Musel, Marissa (Ernesto), Boston (Hailey ), Kenyon (Macey), & Nathan Draper; Dakota (Brooklyn), Skylar (Sarabeth), & Macy Alexander; Cain (Jacki) Lugar; Jalyn (Aaron Markee), Amaya & Gavin Alexander; Nathan, Kenny, Maggie & Sadie Farmer; 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Ava Nell Gribble and Della Stone; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; 11 brothers, and 2 sisters.
