Karl Johnson, age 89 of Mallard, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Thursday December 28th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard.

Karl Johnson, age 89 of Mallard, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Thursday December 28th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, with burial at Rush Lake Cemetery of Curlew. Services will be livestreamed on Lentz Funeral Home’s website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/karl-johnson. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Wednesday December 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard.

Karl Richard Johnson, the son of John Richard “Dick” and Greta (Cagann) Johnson, was born on November 21, 1934 in Mallard, Iowa. He attended Mallard High School, graduating in 1952. Following school, Karl worked in construction for Booth and Olson. Karl also was a truck driver for many years, driving for Jim Staley Trucking in Mallard, Ellsworth Trucking in Eagle Grove, Gehrt Trucking in Mallard, and Zero Motor Freight in San Antonio, Texas. On June 3, 1956, Karl was united in marriage to Kathleen Janell Bargman at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard.

Karl was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served a variety of roles including the church president. Over the years Karl was a member of the Mallard City Council as well as the Mallard Volunteer Fire Department. He also kept busy enjoying farm work for Olberding Farms and running parts for Kenyon Truck Repair.

Left to cherish Karl’s memory is his wife of 67 years, Janell; his children, Klint (Sharman) Johnson of Elkhart, IN, Keven (Colleen) Johnson of Hampstead, NC, and Richard (Melissa) Johnson of Johnston, IA; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brother, Delray (Joyce) Johnson of Peosta, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Greta.

Memorials may be made in Karl’s name and directed to Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Mission Central or Lutheran Family Services.
