Ruth Kay Johanna Bryant, 85, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.
Family suggests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Ruth was born on April 13, 1938, in Mason City, Iowa., the daughter of Herman and Elvina (Walswick) Peterson of Mason City, Iowa. After graduating from Mason City High School she went to Broadlawns City Hospital in Des Moines to become a Registered Nurse. Ruth worked for over 40 years as a Nurse in Mason City at Park Hospital, as head nurse at North Iowa Medical Center, and as a Nurse Manager at Mercy Hospital. In 1959 she married James D. Bryant and together they had four children. The couple divorced many years later.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In her down time she enjoyed crime shows, playing in a pool league, sudoku and doing word puzzles, especially scrabble. She would spend her summer days laying in the sun reading books and drinking hot coffee. As a lover of nature she took numerous walks with her dogs and liked watching and feeding the birds, and gardening. Ruth’s love for her family was unconditional; she took pride in being a mother and grandmother.
Those left to cherish memories of Ruth are her children, Dianne Bryant and Steven Bryant (Susie Frescaz); grandchildren, Kelsey, Hunter (Alex), Caleb, Mika, Ashley (Tyler), Adam, Jocelyn (Colter), and Sarah; great grandchildren, Ronin, Madeline, Nolan, Bella, Swayze, Zeppelin, Ryder, Charlotte, Ophelia, Kinzley and Ryler; daughter in-law; Saundra Bryant; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her eldest, Mark Bryant, her son in infancy, James Jr.; her parents, six brothers, Norman, Irving, Harold, Robert, Earl and Ralph; and significant other, Ralph Askeland.
