The daughter of Wilbur and Hilda (Torkelson) Rood, Eleanor Elaine was born July 27, 1939 in Rutland, IA. She grew up with her six siblings in the Rutland area and attended a small country school through the third grade. She graduated from Twin Rivers Valley High School in Bode among the class of 1958. As a young adult Eleanor’s family moved to Mason City where she worked at Westview Market before meeting and marrying Ralph McEachran.
The young couple were married on January 12, 1963, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City and together they were blessed with three children and 60 years of marriage.
Eleanor was a proud farm wife who dedicated herself to their children and family. She was a wonderful and caring mother, and an equally hard worker, helping to support her husband every day.
She adored her grandchildren and spent time with them, playing games and drawing, whenever they were around. Some of her fondest times were spent gathering the family together on Sundays for big family dinners and Viking games. Eleanor was a wonderful cook and loved gathering everyone together. She enjoyed going for coffee with her sisters and occasional trips to the casino.
Eleanor and Ralph enjoyed traveling and took frequent trips to Arizona to visit family and other places with family.
Those grateful in sharing in her life include her husband, Ralph; children, Terry (Angela) McEachran, Mark (Nancy) McEachran, and Kathy (Mark) Frandle; grandchildren, Taylor, Paige, Alecia (Jared), Andrea, Kayley, and Evan; sisters, Shirley Hendrick, Lavina (Anthony) Brass, Janet (Charles) Cooper, and Loretta (Duane) Bennett; sisters-in-law Judy (Larry) Hansen and Jean Rood; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
