OBIT: Eric D. Johnson

Eric D. “Ed” Johnson, 38, passed away at his home on November 26, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Eric D. “Ed” Johnson, 38, passed away at his home on November 26, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 South Jefferson Ave, Mason City, IA with Rev. Jane Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, 3269 Foothill Ave, Osage, IA.

A time of fellowship will be held following the service at the church.

Eric was born on February 20, 1985 in Mason City, IA to David and Wendy (LeDuc) Johnson. He attended Mason City High School and later went on to work at Sunny Fresh. Eric was very crafty and loved to create with any medium. He built model ships, and enjoyed blowing glass and working on several projects in the shop. Going to the casino was something he enjoyed doing, and was quite lucky. Eric spent many hours on YouTube watching videos and learning various skills. He was a walking encyclopedia and had an amazing memory. Eric was always eager to learn. He was a master at fishing and always seemed to have the best luck. He was known to catch the first, most and biggest fish. Eric use to enjoy spending time with his grandpa, enjoying a few beers and hunting the ditches for asparagus. He also enjoyed caring for tropical and saltwater fish tanks. He was known for his beautiful saltwater aquariums.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends and his family. He had a very special bond with his mom, spending countless hours together. Some of his friends called him a “big momma’s boy”, which he didn’t mind at all. In fact, he was proud of it.
Eric was quite the entertainer. He had a quick wit and was known for his Forrest Gump impressions. He would do anything in the world for others, especially his grandma. Eric spent a lot of time with his dog, Lucy, who was at times known as Lucifer. He had many great friends and considered all of them his brothers.

Those left to cherish Eric’s memory are his mom and step-dad, Wendy (Martin) Sullivan; his brother, Ely Sullivan; nephew Braden and niece, Kynlee Sullivan; his grandma, Linda LeDuc; his aunts, Tracy (Randy) Crawford and Helen (Ken) Burrington; uncle, Greg (Sandra) LeDuc; cousins, Brian Crawford, Angella Miller, Maddy and Grayson LeDuc, Zachary and Jacob Donaghy, and Laurel Burrington; as well as many cherished friends.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, David Johnson; maternal grandfather, Bill LeDuc; and paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Johnson.
