BROOKINGS, S.D. – UNI wrestling topped the team leaderboard on Sunday with five titles and 23 individual medalists at South Dakota State’s Daktronics Open.
Cael Happel claimed his second straight Daktronics Open title at 141 pounds with a pin of Zach Redding (Iowa State) in the final after securing bonus points in all three of his victories. Adam Allard grabbed the first open title of his collegiate career with a 3-0 day at 149 pounds, while Ryder Downey opened his season with three wins to take first in the 157-pound bracket.
Jared Simma pulled off three tightly contested decisions to win the 174-pound bracket, as Wyatt Voelker opened the 2023-24 season with a 4-0 sweep at 197 pounds, his fourth open title in his career.
